Oct. 13th, 2006 09:58 pmTigers are now up 3-0 in the ALCS, which coincidentally was the score of tonight's game -- we had the A's locked down like nobody's business. They had nothing. Mercifully, they pulled Jimenez late in the game -- he's not their regular second baseman and he throws for absolute shit -- and we had the interesting privilege of seeing a young man's major-league debut in the postseason, which has never happened before. Kid did okay, too, for the all of one inning they had him playing.
Proof that I am going to hell:
Me: "So the Tigers actually cause amnesia in their opponents, right? So whoever's playing them forgets what they're best at, you know, their strong suit. The A's were good at defense, but they've forgotten how to throw or catch or cover bases, and the Yankees --"
Justin "--fly into buildings?"
Me: "Don't be silly, Justin, the Yankees were never good at pitching."
Also: I've discovered a brand of spiced rum called Sailor Jerry's that I like quite a bit. It's 92 proof, so it's got a hell of a kick, but I picked it up because they were out of Captain Morgan's (I was just looking for a mixin' rum) and it's really good. I've devised a drink which I call the Cuba Azucar Libre, translated roughly as "Sugar-Free Cuba," because it's Diet Coke and rum with a lime twist -- honestly, I think it's better than normal. I tried regular Coke, and it has this kind of corn-syrup-and-iron-filings aftertaste that just didn't sit well with the rum. Plus, the label has a half-naked tattoo-type lady on the front, which reminds me of Pete & Pete, and that's never a bad thing.
